Founder / Consultant
PeakAnalysts is operated by Dr. Douglas Befroy, who has over 20 years of experience in the development and application of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) techniques. Dr. Befroy obtained a B.A. in Chemistry from St. Hugh’s College at the University of Oxford and then completed a D.Phil. in cardiovascular physiology at the Department of Biochemistry and University Laboratory of Physiology. His doctoral work examined the effects of ischemia on cardiovascular physiology and metabolism utilising multinuclear MRS approaches. After completing his doctorate Dr Befroy moved to the USA as a research fellow at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Yale University and subsequently joined the faculty at the Departments of Diagnostic Radiology and Internal Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine. His research at Yale focussed on the development of novel MRS methods to investigate the effects of obesity, type 2 diabetes, aging and exercise on human metabolism. This work has resulted in the publication of a number of high profile articles. He was appointed Director of the Core of Muscle and Liver MRS at the Yale University Magnetic Resonance Research Center and was also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. In 2015, Dr Befroy returned to the UK and established PeakAnalysts as an independent consulting practice to provide support to the international MR community.
